Chevrolet provides our first official look at the next-gen 2020 Silverado HD pickup ahead of the truck’s full debut in February 2019. The heavy-duty hauler will go on sale in the middle of next year.
The 2020 Silverado HD has an eye-catching, potentially even polarizing look. The Bowtie says that the roof is the only part shared with the less tough Silverado 1500. A massive mesh grille now dominates the front end, and there’s no guessing what company makes this machine because “Chevrolet” appears in the holes in the bar that spans the center of the grille. The chiseled hood features a subtle, chrome-trimmed scoop. At the back, a step integrates into the rear bumper for easier access to the bed.
Chevrolet doesn’t provide any photos of the interior, but spy photos offer a glimpse inside. The center stack has an infotainment display at the top and huge HVAC vents next to it. The Bowtie also touts that there are an additional three inches of legroom in the second row of crew cab models so that bigger folks are more comfortable in the back.
The 2020 Silverado HD will be available with a tweaked powertrain range. There will be a new gasoline engine with direct injection, but Chevy won’t provide any further details about it yet. In addition, the existing Duramax turbodiesel V8 will get a new 10-speed automatic gearbox. The upgrades will provide “significant increases in towing and payload capabilities,” according to the Bowtie.
